Iced Black Tea
Origin

Assam, India

Bold, malty Assam black tea, the backbone of the breakfast cup.

Region
Brahmaputra Valley
Terrain
Lowland

Assam sits on the low, humid plains of the Brahmaputra Valley, where heat, rain and rich river soil push the leaf along quickly. That growth shows in the cup: deep colour, a brisk, full body and the malty note that makes Assam the usual backbone of a breakfast blend.

Assam tea is a story of discovery. In 1823 Scotsman Robert Bruce found native tea plants growing wild there, guided by the local nobleman Maniram Dewan. The Assam Company, the first tea company in India, was formed in 1839, and Assam tea reached London’s auction rooms the same winter.
